Can you help researchers understand patient & carer priorities; would you like the opportunity to assist researchers in ensuring that your needs and views are reflected within Motor Neurone Disorders Research in Sheffield?
The 'Sheffield Motor Neurone Disorders Research Advisory Group' (SMND RAG) is a new committee that is being set up to bring together patients and carers from the Sheffield area who wish to be actively involved in a member's panel.
The aims of the Group are to:
- Enable the patient and carers perspectives to be heard, which might otherwise be overlooked
- Provide knowledge for the researchers from the individual's experience and contribution
- Identify and prioritise research topics that are important to patients
- Improve recruitment to research studies
- Help in identifying improved measures for research outcomes
- Give patients and carers a more authoritative voice
- Build public credibility and trust in clinical research, and improve external evaluations
- Provide insight into further possibilities for involving patients and carers to have a say in research
- Identify any barriers to effective involvement
- Comment on study Patient Information Sheets
- Help write lay summaries for research proposals and Research Ethics Committees
We are looking for up to 10 people to attend Sheffield based meetings up to 3 times a year and who would be willing to be contacted intermittently throughout the year to review documents.
All reasonable travel expenses will be paid for and lunch will be provided. There will be access to relevant training courses and mentoring.
